Woodcote Park Golf Club opened in 1912 with an exhibition match between Harry Vardon and James Braid, the foremost golfers of their day.
The club was formed with great enthusiasm and initially there were 100 men and 25 lady members. To commemorate the opening, the fine oak tree to be seen in front of the clubhouse was planted. The club bought the freehold in the 1950s, securing its long-term future.
