The club was founded in 1913, with the original course designed by Charles Mayo and remodelled in 1935 by James Braid.
The 1951 Open Champion, Max Faulkner, learnt his golf here, and after leaving school he became an assistant to his father Gus, who was the club professional from 1927 to 1945. It is a parkland course in the rolling Surrey Hills, just south of Guildford.
